Veronica Mars: The Thousand Dollar Tan Line

tanline I need to begin with a confession. My name is Emily and I used to read and write Veronica Mars fan fiction. It’s important to know this in order to understand where this review is coming from. I love the Veronica Mars universe so much that I wanted to spend as much time as possible in it.

That’s exactly what Veronica Mars: The Thousand Dollar Tan Line by Rob Thomas and Jennifer Graham allows us to do. It picks up right after the end of the movie. Veronica has begun to work for Mars Investigations. Keith is still out of commission due to the car accident that took place in the movie and Logan is still deployed and only shows up via email and Skype. Business is slow so Veronica starts the book with plenty of reasons to question her decision to give up a lucrative job as a lawyer in New York for being a PI in her hometown.

Veronica Mars

Veronica_Mars_Film_Poster The Veronica Mars movie was epic. Lives ruined, bloodshed. About the only thing it didn’t do was span continents. It lets us spend 107 minutes with old friends who we haven’t seen for eight years and wish we were as clever as they are.

The plot is solid, more than just a reason to gather together the familiar cast of characters. The real heart of the movie, though, is the snappy dialogue. Keith and Veronica especially still maintain their excellent rapport. The maturity really shows in the fact that Logan’s girlfriend was murdered and we’re never supposed to think that he might have done it. During the show’s run, if Logan was accused of murder then we and Veronica were always supposed to believe that he might have done it.

Veronica Mars Watchalong Week 9: Episodes S03E14 through Episode S03E20

vms364 episodes in 64 days! Tonight, I get to see the movie. It’s a pretty good day to be a Veronica Mars fan. I know that a lot of people were disappointed that the series ended as it did but I actually thought that it was kind of perfect. They told us that Keith and Veronica Mars were back to being at the bottom of the heap without giving a pat answer to every question. It was very noir. Don’t think that my inner fangirl isn’t super psyched for the movie, though. I did give to the Kickstarter, after all.

Veronica Mars Watch-A-Long Week 6: S02E15 through S02E21

vm2Just one episode of season two left. Despite liking season 1 the best of all three seasons of Veronica Mars, I think the writers might have done a better job of sneaking in bits of the season-long arcs in season 2. I’ve had a constant sense of dread while watching the past few episodes and it’s all because I know how it ends. Fortunately, the first few of this week’s episodes are lighter on the arc.

Veronica Mars Watch-A-Long Week 4: Episodes S02E01 through S02E07

vm2Second season! We start off with an “I’m going to be totally normal this year” version of Veronica that fortunately doesn’t last too long and makes sense after the events of last season. She desperately wants to create an atmosphere of safety around herself for her own sake and for her father’s piece of mind. What pulls her back in are loyalty to her friends and father and a tragedy that rocks the town.
